Welcome to the Newmarket Eco-industrial Zone wiki, a resource provided by the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) that provides information to assist Newmarket businesses in greening their operations as part of the Newmarket Eco-industrial Zone Program.
With over 500 businesses and 11,000 employees, Newmarket encompasses a diverse range of businesses from warehousing to food distributors, from produce wholesalers to construction companies, from banking and finance to light industry. This wiki provides users with updates, discussions, and best practices related to the development of eco-industrial zones in Boston.
The Newmarket District encompasses the area bordered by Albany Street on the north, Hampden and George Streets on the west, Boston Street and Dorchester Avenue on the east and extends to where Massachusetts Avenue intersects with Columbia Road in the south.
The BRA proposes two key goals to assist businesses operating within the Newmarket Eco-industrial Zone:
- Identification of cost-effective strategies for emission reductions, energy efficiency, and clean energy policies as well as greater resource efficiency, and
- Establishment of integrated eco-industrial zones in urban industrial districts across Boston.
